AnVir Task Manager Download and Review

an vir task manager    an vir free antivirus

I recently have come across a devastating virus.  The virus pretends to be an antivirus program.  The software installs by prompting you on a suspicious website that your computer is "infected."  The browser pop up window will look exactly like a real antivirus program that has probably pop upped on your Windows Vista or XP desktop to warn you of an actual virus threat or windows update.  Unfortunately, most users will mistake this popup window for their antivirus program and click on it.  After a few clicks there will be spyware, Trojans, and even password stealers (key loggers installed.) I personally have experienced an infection of the caliber that it  will actually infect and force "My Computer" (windows explorer) to display various scan results about some bogus virus infection. After this has completed for a few seconds, you will be redirected to a website which will then constantly re download new Trojans and viruses.  Since this virus works so fast its very difficult for an regular antivirus program to react and clean it.  Therefore, when trying to completely clean this infection I came across anvir task manager.  While this program is not technically a free antivirus it has a significant amount of functionality.  One being that in one page you can view all of your currently running processes, startups, and services  The software will also give each of your startup programs a security rating; so you can determine good programs from bad ones.  In addition, you can drill down to obtain as much detail as to what .dll's are running and for what specific program. An vir task manager is a powerful program and should supplement any free antivirus program on this website.

BitTorrent and Antivirus a Necessary Combination

bittorrent antivirus    scan bittorrent files

As just discussed above, be wary of virus notices that pop up on your computer to warn you about some bogus infection.  I recently found out that this type of bogus antivirus is being distributed in bit torrent files.  Some one I met had downloaded a bittorrent file.  They unzipped the file and everything appeared to be normal.  But after they clicked setup.exe a DOS window appeared and antivirus pop ups started to happen. Unfortunately this person did not have an antivirus product at the time.  Therefore, it is imperative to have an antivirus solution and  constantly scan downloaded files.  If your computer has a Core 2 Duo processor or has at least 2 (dual) processor cores, I recommend you do a full system scan every time you start your computer. This is because with a dual core processor one core can do the scanning while the other can help your computer do the normal startup tasks.  Free AVG and spyware doctor give you the option to scan all or parts of your Windows Vista or Windows XP system at startup.  I have this option enabled on a Core 2 duo Quad and I am not able to detect a slowdown while having increased antivirus protection.
