We have reviewed the full version of eScan here before.  The latest freeware version is the eScan Antivirus Toolkit 12.  The Antivirus Toolkit now not only detects but also deletes the latest viruses.  The software can be run even if another antivirus program is installed (the software can coexist with other antivirus programs).  In addition, the toolkit can run a scan from a CD or USB drive and doesn’t need to be installed locally on the computer.  As always, the Escan antivirus toolkit offers the same virus definitions and the same detection capability as the full escan version.  Finally, the scanner also scans for spyware in addition to viruses and also creates a comprehensive log file for the user to review.

    If a user is unaware, the full escan version includes  a new type of antivirus engine that works on the winsock layer.  This means that escan uses a form of deep packet inspection to identify a virus even before the full virus can be completely downloaded.  Therefore, this means that escan provides the same protection that a hardware based antivirus appliance.  In addition, escan has been awarded numerous accolades by av comparatives for its fast accurate virus scanning.
